The Tanit, from 1966 to today
Since 1966 the Golden Tanit has rewarded the best feature of the official competition; it takes its name from the goddess of Carthage. The first went to Ousmane Sembene for Black Girl. The silver and bronze Tanits complete the podium, and each competition (fiction, documentary, short film) awards its own.
Added to these are the Tahar Cheriaa prize for a first feature, named after the festival's founder, the audience award, the screenplay prize and prizes given by partners. The 2026 awards will be published on this page on the evening of 19 December.
