The trail
From the market town of Teboursouk through olive groves up to Dougga, the best preserved Roman town in North Africa, ending at its Libyco-Punic mausoleum.
Dougga covers some 70 hectares of a hillside above the Oued Khalled valley, a Numidian town that became Roman Thugga and is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997. The walk leaves Teboursouk and climbs through olive groves to the theatre, then crosses the town to the Capitol of AD 166, the temple of Juno Caelestis and down to the Libyco-Punic mausoleum, a Numidian tower tomb that was pulled apart in 1842 to take its bilingual inscription to London and rebuilt in the early 20th century.
