About
The ancient theatre of Carthage is a 2nd-century Roman theatre, restored in the 20th century, on the Odeon hill in Carthage, a few kilometres from the centre of Tunis. Since 1964 it has been the stage of the Carthage International Festival, Tunisia's oldest festival, which every summer, from mid-July to mid-August, brings together the great voices of Arab and international music. Its tiers hold about 7,500 spectators, with the Gulf of Tunis as a backdrop. Outside the festival, the site hosts a few concerts and ceremonies; the dates listed above, past and upcoming, are the ones we know of.
The theatre
Semicircular tiers of about 7,500 seats, open to the sky. For the festival, seats are sold by category: the floor and the first rows nearest the stage, the upper tiers at the most affordable price, with a full view of the stage and the bay.
Tickets
Carthage Festival tickets are sold through the festival's official box office, online and at the points of sale announced each season. The festival guide linked below follows the programme, the categories and the prices of the current edition; each date listed above says where its ticket is sold.
Getting there
By TGM from Tunis Marine, get off at Carthage Hannibal: the theatre is about ten minutes' walk uphill. By taxi, allow about twenty minutes from the centre of Tunis outside peak hours. On festival nights, arrive 45 minutes to an hour before the show for the checks at the entrance.
