El Jem, MahdiaJuly - AugustSince 1985Capacity: 7,000The International Festival of Symphonic Music of El Jem is a unique event in North Africa, dedicated to classical and symphonic music. It takes place in the Roman amphitheatre of El Jem, one of the best preserved in the world.
This UNESCO World Heritage amphitheatre could originally seat 35,000 spectators. Today, the festival programmes international symphonic orchestras, renowned soloists and chamber music ensembles.
The remarkable acoustics of this nearly two-thousand-year-old monument, combined with its majestic architecture, make each concert an incomparable sensory experience.
