The trail
From the brick lanes of Ouled el Hadef through the shade of the Tozeur palm grove to the Belvedere rocks over the oasis.
Tozeur is the capital of the Djerid, an oasis of hundreds of thousands of date palms watered, since the 13th century, by a channel system credited to Ibn Chabbat. The walk starts in Ouled el Hadef, the old quarter whose walls are laid in patterned yellow brick, goes down into the palm grove, where fruit trees and vegetables grow under the palms, passes the Dar Cherait museum and the house of the poet Abou el Kacem Chebbi, and ends on the Belvedere rocks, which look over the palms to the Chott el Djerid.
