A high steppe massif on the Kasserine and Sidi Bouzid border, made a national park in 2010 for its mountain wildlife and its fossil beds, which produced the first plesiosaur found in Tunisia. The mountain has been a closed military zone in recent years.

A PERMIT IS NEEDED TO VISIT

PERMIT
Yes, from the Direction Generale des Forets. Mount Mghila has also been listed among the closed military zones of central Tunisia, so clearance from the authorities is essential.
GUIDE
Required in practice; do not walk in unaccompanied.
SEASON
Spring and autumn, subject to the security situation.
RULES
Check the current status before travelling; access to the massif has been barred during army operations.

123 vertebrate species recorded, among them genet, mongoose, striped hyena, fox and several eagles
